Une sensation contemporaine

Inspirée par la peinture de Miriam Cahn Zeitgenössisches Gefühl (2009), l’exposition explore l’idée d’une « sensation » contemporaine à travers une sélection d’œuvres de la collection du Fonds cantonal d’art contemporain de Genève et de nouvelles productions réalisées par trois artistes ukrainiennes invitées.
Notre regard sur la contemporanéité a été éprouvé par un isolement immense bien que connecté et l’urgence de crises à l’échelle planétaire qui mettent au défi toutes nos espérances. Une situation qui appelle à l’action tout en étant paralysante. Il semble en découler une sensation de fragilité, néanmoins vibrante, du réel. Dans ce contexte, la narration et l’appropriation artistique peuvent devenir une manière d’aborder l’avalanche d’informations et de désinformations qui nous engloutit.
De quelle manière les artistes expriment et appréhendent-ils/elles leur relation à une époque pleine de contradictions ? Les œuvres sélectionnées oscillent entre faits et fiction, narration et documentation, entre objectivité et regard
poétique interpellant. Les artistes Alevtina Kakhidze, Kateryna Lysovenko et Anna Zvyagintseva ont été invitées à utiliser cette exposition comme une plateforme ouverte, un champ d’expérimentation et d’expression de leurs vies et pratiques artistiques qui ont été bouleversées par l’invasion à grande échelle de l’Ukraine en 2022.

Inspired by Miriam Cahn’s painting Zeitgenössisches Gefühl (2009) (which translates as « contemporary feeling »), the exhibition explores the idea of a contemporary “sensation” along a selection of works from the collection of the Geneva Contemporary Art Fund (FCAC) and new productions by three Ukrainian artists.
Our sense of contemporaneity has been challenged by the dynamic between extreme mediated remoteness and urgent global crises that confront our wildest expectations, like a scream for action that can simultaneously paralyze. A fragile yet vibrating sensation of reality seems to be the result. Storytelling and artistic appropriation might possibly be the only solution to approaching the avalanche of information and disinformation that engulfs us.
This exhibition aims to look into the ways artists express and approach their relationship to the conflicted space and time we share. The selection of works focuses on positions, which operate between fact and fiction, between narration and documentation, between objectivity and a poetic, questioning gaze. Three Ukrainian artists, Alevtina Kakhidze, Kateryna Lysovenko et Anna Zvyagintseva, were invited to produce new works and to use this exhibition as an open platform, a field of experimentation and expression for their lives and artistic practices that have been disrupted by the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
